If I remember correctly, it was more of a Soviet thing. The Soviets disbanded and locked up many of the opposing parties within the new DPRK,
even some of the communist ones. One of them even became a terrorist org during the Korean War because they weren't cleaned up fast enough.
The other instance was the August Faction coup, where Soviet-aligned opposition to Kim Il Sung tried to remove him from power,
influenced by Khrushchev's supposed "fight against cult of personality." They were of course trialed and executed. Screw them.

What exactly is a "prison camp?" Like, what does it even mean? I know the DPRK has prisons; like any other country.

Kim Il Sung freed his people from the grasp of Imperial Japan. He modernized Korea through education and agricultural advancement.
He built the country back from genocide and decimation.
Kim Il Sung might be one of the only socialist leaders and theorists to truly state and ensure the importance of an educated and powerful people.
The little thing in the middle of the flag of the WPK is a brush, meant to symbolize the intellectual.
North Korean citizens take politics and voting very seriously. Voting in the DPRK
Kim Il Sung's guiding principle and maxim was: "My god is none other than the people." He lead through listening to the people; workers, farmers, teachers, schoolchildren, regular citizens. "Only the popular masses are omniscient and omnipotent and almighty on earth."
How is he repressing his people when they had more freedom over the changes in the country, their work, and general life than any other nation on Earth?
